Today in Neuroscience I learned that Myelin (the covering or insulative layer over axons) is a mammalian invention that greatly increases the speed of propagation of electrical signals along axons.
Birds for example, would not have myelin. I wonder if they have any similar covering at all ???
I went to the second day of classes. I am getting a sense of how much reading I am supposed to do and how much I will actually be able to do… Still have a lot of books and supplies to get for anatomy lab.
Thankfully it is mostly introductions this first week. I do have work due tomorrow which is crazy..
It is super exciting, a lot of work, and expensive $$$.
I am really enjoying having something new to learn about. I find myself sort of unprepared and completely a virgin in most of my subjects.
My books have been ordered on half.com and are arriving this week. My financial aid came in and so I can actually pay for medical school… Ahhhh
I learned that something called Arnica is used for bruises and scrapes etc… and it usually gives very rapid results.. I will search around for some info on this.
I added pictures of gremlin, focus and a goshawk I raised when they were 2-4 weeks old to the site. I also added some more coppermine photos. I also spent some time figuring out the rest of my site and getting it working again from the Hacker attack….
Today my site was “hacked” by some turkish “hackers”…
It was only down for a day but it was still pretty aggravating. They took advantage of a security breach in the DNS and referred my page to them instead of aaronsworld.com.
Bastards 😉
I also added a coppermine photogallery which can be viewed here
My grandma died today. I was really upset and sad. The funeral was in Florida. I unfortunatley could not attend but sent my love along with my parents. They said it was very stressful. I cannot express how I felt. I am sorry I couldn’t or didn’t spend more time with her… I will miss ya grandma!!!
Finished up hunting with the female goshawk and put her up for the molt. I have to add a feeding chute to her mews as well as clean and update it for the summer. I do not yet know what I am going to do with the male gos yet. I may keep him on a perch or build another chamber. Any way I do it I will keep him hunting for a little while now. Unfortunately with the end of the hunting season I have to get back to the real world. In particular I need to make some cash and figure out my next step. For the immediate future I think I will be working at home helping out with some renovations and yard work (today I cut down 5 trees) after that i hope to finish up the Jackrabbit surveys and then maybe look at a job in a biotech lab while I study for grad exams. Who knows??? 😉
